Sudden explosion leaves massive hole blown out of wall & woman has to be rescued from rubble after '

A WOMAN has been pulled from rubble after a massive explosion ripped through a flat in East London.

The blast - believed to be caused by a faulty boiler - was so strong it tore the front off the apartment block leaving a massive hole.

Emergency services charged to the address on Well Street, Hackney, shortly after 2.30am this morning.

Paramedics found a woman, who had been getting ready for a trip to Australia, at the scene.

After being dragged out the rubble inside her five-room flat she was rushed to hospital.

Her condition is unknown.

Shocking footage from the scene shows a pile of brick and mortar covering the lawn below the first floor flat.

The exact cause of the blast at Well Street Hall is being investigated but experts suspect a boiler malfunction.

The Metropolitan Police told The Sun they attended the scene.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "Firefighters responded to a suspected boiler explosion on Well Street in Hackney.

"A five roomed flat on the first floor, in a block of three floors, was damaged by the explosion.

"The front and rear of the building was also damaged as a result of the incident. A 25 metre cordon was in place whilst crews responded.

"One resident was rescued from the flat by firefighters using a ladder, before being treated on scene and then taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service."
