Man rushed to hospital with stab wounds after 'incident' at Hackney Central railway station as cops

A MAN has been rushed to hospital after a "firearms incident" at a busy overground station.

Armed police and an air ambulance scrambled to Hackney Central station in East London at 1.30pm today.

A man with stab wounds was rushed to hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

One witness wrote on Twitter: "So weird seeing police with guns."

They added: "I saw them wheeling away a boy with an oxygen mask on."

Video shows an air ambulance landing on the football pitch of a nearby school.

The station is currently close while emergency services deal with the incident.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "Armed officers attended Hackney Central Overground station following reports of a firearms incident at 1.29pm on 1 March.

"A man was located at the station with laceration wounds and was taken to a local hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

"The station remains closed while officers make enquiries into the incident.

"Detectives are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident, as they may have information which could help their investigation.

Transport for London tweeted: "Hackney Central Station: Closed while the police carry out an investigation."

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called today at 1.24pm to reports of an incident at Hackney Central Station, Hackney.

"We sent a number of resources to the scene, including an incident response officer, two ambulance crews and a medic in a fast response car. We also dispatched London's Air Ambulance.

"Our first medic arrived within three minutes.

"We treated a man at the scene and took him to a major trauma centre as a priority."
