FINES for driving in bus lanes and failing to pay the Congestion Charge will rocket to £160 from next year. Transport for London (TfL) revealed penalties will soar from January 2 2018 for bus lane offences and late congestion charge payments. Fines for illegal parking and turns plus blocking red routes are likely to be hiked later that month, too, pending government sign off. Other councils are expected to follow suit later in the year with TfL raking in an extra £20m a year from the changes.

A SCOTS footballer who died in a horror car crash on a busy Glasgow road has been named by cops. Gavin Stokes, who played for the likes of Dundee United and Alloa Athletic, passed away after his vehicle lost control and left the road at around 1.10am this morning. The incident happened at the Thornwood roundabout near to Glasgow's Dumbarton Road. Sadly, the 30-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have paid tribute to him as as a beloved son, amazing dad, brother, uncle and friend.
