Theresa May memes go viral after PM performs bizarre laugh during pre-Budget PMQs session

THERESA May performed a bizarre shoulder-raising laugh during PMQs today as she tore into Jeremy Corbyn for being unfit to lead the country.

Her outburst has sent the internet into meltdown with dozens of memes being posted likening the PM to a variety of characters.

Side Show Bob from the Simpsons, Muttley from Wacky Races and the Wicked Witch Of The West have all featured as online wits pile in with comparisons.

Marc Owen Jones tweeted a picture of the evil cartoon character from The Simpsons asking: "Anyone else think of this when Theresa May laughed? #PMQs."

Anonymous Cynic posted an image of Idina Menzel portraying the Wicked Witch of The West in the musical Wicked comparing her to the PM.

@LingusTim likened Mrs May to Muttley, the famous sniggering hound from The Wacky Races.

The PM was asked by the Labour leader what she knew about a "sweetheart deal" made with Surrey County Council which led them to drop plans for a referendum on raising council tax.

But the Prime Minister couldn't help but burst out laughing when Mr Corbyn said: "The texts, Mr Speaker, said there was a memorandum of understanding. The Prime Minister said there was no deal. She now is unclear about this."

And he went on: "Did she actually know what arrangement was made with Surrey County Council? She's unkeen on answering questions on that."

In a rare scene, Mrs May leant back in her seat and howled with laughter at the comments - with Chancellor Philip Hammond giggling next to her too before he stepped up to give the Budget.

This uncharacteristic show of hilarity is what prompted the meme makers of Twitter to make fun of her.

The PM was also likened to several more characters known for their laughter.

Tweeter Dean compared her to the laughing Muppet theatre critics Statler and Waldorf while Thomas Gorton likened her to a demonic doll from the Horror movie Chucky.

Dean Burnett claimed that the PM's odd laugh was yet another event predicted years ago by The Simpsons posting a picture of a character working on a robot.

Away from the internet hilarity May responded to the hapless Labour leader that the scheme he was referring to would be available for all from 2019.

She said: "The business rate retention pilot will be coming into force for a number of councils this April... In 2019/20 it's going to be available to 100 per cent of councils, for 2018/19 councils are able to apply to be part of a further pilot - that goes for all councils across the country."

And she hit back at Labour for being "unfit to govern".

She stormed:  “We are securing the economy, Labour want to weaken it. We’re fighting for the best deal for Britain, Labour are fighting among themselves.”

Finishing the session with a flourish, she barked: “Labour are weak, divided and unfit to govern this great country.”

And in the Budget following Prime Minister's Questions, Mrs May watched on as Mr Hammond delivered the fiscal statement.

She was photographed sporting a number of bizarre facial expressions as she listened to the Chancellor's speech.
